Community Canoe Project - A Pathway to Reconciliation

As the 10 year anniversary of the establishment of our healing garden canoe approaches, we decided it was time to replant it. Although some native flowering plants remained, it was overgrown and overlooked. Thanks to Aiden Cosby, an indigenous gardener in Toronto, we were able to renew the canoe in the spirit of reconciliation and food justice. Following Aiden's advice, we have added perennial shrubs, elderberry and black raspberry, used medicinally in his community, as well as annuals such as pac choi, radishes, and lettuce. We are grateful for his guidance and feedback on this project and look forward to future partnerships with indigenous communities in Tkaronto.
